What is the month of March most known for? March is the third month of the year, has 31 days, and is named after Mars, the Roman god of war. (Pictured is Mars on a cloudy day!) March is the third month of the year in our modern day Gregorian calendar.

It was originally the first month of the year in the Roman calendar and named Martius. The two zodiac signs associated with March are Pisces and Aries. Those born from March 1st to March 20th are members of the Pisces sign.

The March birthstones are aquamarine and bloodstone. Aquamarine is blue or blue-green — its name comes from the Latin word aqua marinus, which means water of the sea, referencing its tranquil blue color.
